Grotesquerie

Max Winkler wrote and directed Jungleland starring Charlie Hunnam, Jack O'Connell and Jessica Barden. The feature, produced by Scott Free Productions, follows a reluctant bare-knuckle boxer "Lion" and his manager and brother "Stanley" who must travel across the country for one last fight. Jungleland premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2019 and was released by Paramount in 2020. Winkler’s previous film Flower, starring Zoey Deutch, premiered at Tribeca where it was bought for distribution by The Orchard and released in 2017. Winkler made his feature directorial debut with Ceremony, a comedy he also wrote, starring Uma Thurman, Michael Angarano and Lee Pace. In television, Winkler is a director and executive producer on American Horror Stories, an anthology series produced by Ryan Murphy. He directed the pilots for the series School Spirits on Paramount and Cruel Summer, the highest rated series in Freeform’s history. Winkler has extensive experience directing series, most recently including episodes of FEUD: Capote Vs. The Swans (FX) starring Tom Hollander, Naomi Watts and Diane Lane, The Watcher (Netflix) and Minx (Max).
