J. Sansom.On the small screen, he played “Professor Wolfe Kinteh,” the titular character in Sky’s Wolfe, written by Shameless creator Paul Abbott. In 2020, Ceesay reprised the role of “DI Jackson Mendy” in the second season of the Showtime/BBC drama series We Hunt Together alongside Hermione Corfield, Dipo Ola and Eve Myles.In 2019, Ceesay starred in BBC One’s four-part drama Dark Money, reuniting him with writer Levi David Addai. The compelling miniseries follows the family of an abused child, paid off by a famous filmmaker to remain silent. In the same year, he starred as “Bill Riddick” in Robin Bissell’s The Best of Enemies opposite Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell. Inspired by true events chronicled in The Best of Enemies: Race and Redemption in the New South by Osha Gray Davidson, the biographical drama follows civil rights activist Ann Atwater’s face off against C.P. Ellis, Exalted Cyclops of the Ku Klux Klan, in 1971 Durham, North Carolina over the issue of school integration.Other notable performances on television include the six-part drama Guerrilla as “Marcus Hill,” for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the 2018 Broadcasting Press Guild Awards. Further television credits include AMC’s Into the Badlands and Damilola, Our Loved Boy, which focuses on the events surrounding the death of Damilola Taylor in London at the turn of the millennium. For his performance, Ceesay earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Leading Actor and a nomination for Male Performance in TV at the Screen Nation Film and Television Awards.Other feature films include black comedy/action film Free Fire and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.On stage, Ceesay appeared opposite Andrew Garfield in the award-winning National Theatre production The Overwhelming in 2013. His other notable stage credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Gods Weep.
